The old town of Alberobello, is the only historical city centre in which all buildings are whitewashed trulli houses with conical roofs. They have been constructed with a special building technique without using mortar since prehistoric times. With its magnificent concentration of enigmatic trulli, more than1.100, it is an intriguing place to visit even if it is a bit touristy. The ancient settlement is so well preserved it’s been given Unesco World Heritage status.
Set on a high fertile plain in the centre of Puglia, the Valle d’Itria runs between Locorotondo, Cisternino, Martina Franca and Alberobello is known also as its capital city.
With its still expanses of olive trees as far as the eye can see, the Itria Valley is red soil, green vineyards, and white trulli houses under a serene blue sky – essentially, a marvelous chromatic effect. that repeats itself several times over.
